Replacement HSS Cutter, For Professional And Utility II
For anyone who has to make more than a single turned object, duplicators are almost essential to a good job--most tables, for example, look more professionally done when all the legs match. If you're making a production run of pens for advertising or other purposes, getting them as close to alike as possible, and doing the job as fast as possible, is important. VEGA duplicators remove stock faster than all but the most experienced woodworkers can, while keeping within very tight tolerances (if the workpiece is heavy enough to not deflect, up to 1/2" can be removed per pass). It works off a template, and can easily work off an original turning (with a 2" maximum turning diameter). Most small-scale lathe duplicating machines do not work well, are poorly made, and the cutters are cheap, often hard or impossible to sharpen, and difficult to replace. And the duplicators will fit only a single machine. VEGA has changed all that. Their three Lathe Duplicators cover mini and midi lathes, and full-sized lathes with swings up to 16". A narrow diamond shaped HSS cutter is included with each duplicator and replacement cutters are available. The Diamond "V" Kit adapts the duplicator to use solid carbide inserts for production situations where frequent sharpening of the cutter is necessary. Each insert is two-sided and replacement inserts are available. The Midi Duplicator is designed to fit almost any midi or mini lathe on the market and copies parts up to 10" long (there is a 24" version available, too). A nice feature of the Vega is that you retain the option to use hand tools to finish the work or to make changes--the Duplicator can either be removed, or mounted on the back of the lathe with the cutter upside down). Not illustrated. The Utility II Duplicator has all the abilities of the Midi Duplicator, but extends sizes to 10-12" swing lathes, with a turning length of up to 36"--this one comes with hardware and mounting brackets for 10-12" swing lathes, plus a riser kit for 16" NOVA lathes. Only uses flat templates, not illustrated. The VEGA Professional Duplicator is designed to fit all 10 to 16" swing lathes, is available in 36" and 48" lengths and comes with all the appropriate mounting hardware. D Scraper, Right HD Bowl
These new shapes are the perfect width for smaller bowls and boxes, yet still thick enough to handle serious turning without chatter. Both are 3/4" wide, 16" long, with 10" ash handles. (A) Round Nose Scraper. A curved end profile makes this tool excellent for creating, smoothing, or blending curved surfaces on bowls, spindles or round bottom box work. Heavy enough for aggressive shaping, yet small enough for sensitive refining cuts. (B) Side Cut Scraper. The special cutting profile of this new scraper makes it ideal for cutting the parallel side walls of end grain boxes. The small radiused point at the bottom corner of the scraper creates a smooth transition from a side wall to a flat bottom. (C&D) Heavy Duty Bowl Scrapers. First introduced by master craftsman Richard Raffan, these shapes have been found to be most efficient in producing the final surfaces on bowls. The curved tips with elongated side edges can clean-up rough, irregular cuts left by gouges, and cut a more pleasing curved shape too. Available in curved left and curved right styles. Blades are 7" long x 1-1/2" wide x 3/8" thick with 14" ash handles.
