These are specialty tools favored by cabinet and piano makers for precise clean-up and fitting operations. This type of plane is unique in that it has no forward support ahead of the blade. With the blade set flush with the sole it excels at paring stock that has been left proud in corners, cleaning into the very ends of rabbets, trimming plugs, moulding and dovetails, and removing dried glue from your work. Meticulously manufactured with bronze lever cap, stainless blade adjuster, hefty 3/16" thick tool steel blade, and rear cherry knob. USA. (A) Patterned after the Stanley #97, discontinued in 1944, this bronze chisel plane is 10" long and 2-1/4" wide. (B) At 6-1/2" x 1-3/4" this solid bronze tool is slightly smaller than the version described above making it easier to grip and control.

High carbon (.95%) tool steel and hardened to Rc62, they hold a razor-sharp edge. Fits Stanley, Bailey, Record, Footprint, and most other planes. 3/32" thick, USA, honing required before use. Bench Plane Blades are 7" long. Block Plane Blades are 4-1/2" long with rear depth adjustment grooves. Wide-slot blades only fit the new Stanley block planes. Spokeshave Blade is 1-7/8" long. HOCK Chipbreakers. Upgrading your plane with a Hock Blade? Add one of their Chip-Breakers for the ultimate plane blade tune-up! A plane's chip-breaker (also called a back-iron or cap-iron) deflects shavings up and away from the cutting edge allowing the blade to shear the wood fibers before they lever up and tear out of the wood surface. This deflection also bends and breaks the shaving fibers so they can't lift and tear out ahead of the blade. The action of the chip-breaker pressing against the blade at the thin cutting edge also strengthen the edge, reducing flex and chatter. Most standard chip-breakers are only .065 to .070" thick - too thin to add much strength. Hock Chip-Breakers are .118" (3mm) thick for added mass, rigidity and support for the cutting edge.
